Companion to Module 1. Pure muscle memory — do these in a fresh claude.ai chat. 15 minutes.
Exercise 1 — The Greeting
Send Claude exactly this:
Hi. Tell me in 2 sentences what you’re good at.
Read the answer. Notice how Claude introduces its capabilities. This is your first calibration — what it claims vs. what you’ll actually find.
Exercise 2 — A Real Task
Send:
Write a 1-paragraph intro for a dental practice blog post about teeth whitening. The practice is family-friendly, located in Austin, TX, and targets adults 25-50. Warm and conversational tone.
Read the output. On a scale of 1–10, how usable is it? Where would you edit?
Exercise 3 — The Follow-Up
Without starting a new chat, send:
Make the tone a little more playful. Keep the same info.
Notice that Claude remembered the context (family-friendly practice, Austin, teeth whitening, 25-50 audience). You didn’t re-paste any of it. That’s a conversation.
Exercise 4 — The Reset Test
Click New chat. Send:
What were we just talking about?
Claude should have no idea. This proves the rule: context lives inside a single chat. New chat = new context.
Exercise 5 — Your Actual Work
Think of something you did yesterday or today for work that involved writing. It could be:
- An email you sent
- A social post
- A bit of web copy
- A document outline
Open a new chat. Describe the task to Claude and ask it to draft a version. Compare Claude’s draft to what you produced (or would have produced) unaided.
Reflection questions (write down your answers somewhere):
- Was Claude’s version better, worse, or a useful second opinion?
- What would you change about it?
- What was missing from your prompt that, if included, would have made the output closer to what you’d actually use?
Question 3 is the most important. That’s the prompt-improvement loop.
Exercise 6 — The “Explain Like I’m 10” Test
Pick something you work with daily that’s technical (SEO, ad bidding, design systems, anything). Ask Claude:
Explain [TOPIC] like I’m 10.
Then:
Now explain it like I’m a skeptical CMO.
Same topic, two audiences. Notice how the explanations shift. This is one of Claude’s most underrated skills — register and audience adaptation.
