Five-minute orientation. Three things to understand before you start: what this course is, why WEO is doing it, and what’s expected of you by the end.

What This Course Is

A WEO-specific path through Anthropic’s official Claude training. Each foundations module (1, 2, 4, 6) anchors on a free course from Anthropic Academy or a Claude tutorial — you’ll spend most of your time on Anthropic’s own material. The wiki side adds three things on top: dental marketing examples, WEO role playbooks (Module 3), and governance rules (Module 7).

Scope is Claude.ai — the chat interface at claude.ai. Claude Code (the terminal-based developer tool) and Claude Cowork (the file-and-folder companion) are separate products and covered briefly in Module 8 for staff who want to go further.

Why WEO Is Doing This

Three reasons in plain language:

  1. Speed. AI-assisted work is measurably faster on the routine tasks we already do — drafting copy, summarizing client calls, generating ad variants, writing meta descriptions. WEO’s goal is 20–30% productivity lift on routine work so we spend more time on thinking and relationships.
  2. Quality consistency. Claude is a strong editor, researcher, and second-opinion partner. Used well, it lifts the floor on work quality across the team. Used badly, it produces generic dental marketing slop. This course is how we avoid the second.
  3. Competitive reality. Dental marketing competitors are adopting AI aggressively. See Cory Roletto’s competitive landscape briefing for the full picture. Short version: not optional.

At the same time, WEO has real constraints — client data, patient-adjacent information (HIPAA considerations), brand voice, quality control. The governance policies in Module 7 exist so you know where the guardrails are.

What You’ll Be Able to Do After This Course

  • Send well-structured prompts that get usable output on the first try more often than not.
  • Know when to use plain chat vs. Projects vs. Claude Design.
  • Have a role-specific prompt playbook with 3–5 prompts tailored to your work.
  • Understand what data you can and cannot put into Claude under WEO policy.
  • Optionally earn Anthropic’s Claude 101 certificate as a foundation-knowledge credential.

Everyone at WEO who uses Claude on real client work is encouraged to complete Anthropic’s Claude 101 course.

Why:

  • It’s free.
  • It takes about 90 minutes.
  • It covers Claude’s core features — chat, projects, artifacts, skills, connectors — from Anthropic directly.
  • It gives the team a common baseline, so when someone says “put it in a Project” or “save it as a Skill,” everyone knows what that means.

This onboarding course (the WEO-specific one you’re reading now) sits on top of Claude 101. Claude 101 teaches you how Claude works; this course teaches you how to use Claude on WEO’s specific work.

Ground Rules Before You Start

  • Do the Try It sections. Reading about Claude without using Claude is like reading about swimming — you retain about 10%. Every module has a concrete hands-on exercise. Actually do them.
  • Use sandbox data, not real client data, while you’re learning. Module 7 covers this in depth, but as a rule of thumb: don’t paste real patient info, real client contracts, or real PII into Claude while practicing.
  • If you’re confused, ask. The WEO AI council exists for questions like “is it OK to…?” or “what should I do when…?” Module 8 tells you how to reach them.

Key Takeaways

  • The course is a WEO-specific layer on top of Anthropic’s free Claude 101.
  • Recommended outcome: complete Claude 101 + build a working personal prompt library.
  • Scope is claude.ai — not Claude Code, not the API, not Cowork.
  • Module 7 governance is mandatory before real client work.
  • Speed, quality, and competitive reality are the three drivers.

Try It (2 minutes)

Before you move on, answer these three questions for yourself — out loud or on paper:

  1. What’s one task in my current role I’d love to spend 30% less time on?
  2. What’s one task in my role I’d never want to hand to AI (and why)?
  3. What client data would I definitely NOT paste into a chatbot?

Hold on to your answers — we come back to them in Module 3 and Module 7.
