Product: Claude for Google Workspace (add-on + connectors) URL: https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-now-works-in-google-docs-sheets-and-slides Date: 2026-10-06 Status: Public beta, all paid Claude plans
Claude now ships as a sidebar add-on in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, plus Google Workspace Connectors (beta) for creating and editing Google files from inside Claude chat.
What it does
The add-on opens Claude in a sidebar next to your open file. Claude can read the document and your current selection, then edit the file directly. Two edit modes control how changes land:
- Ask before edits (default) — each change appears as an approval card
- Accept all edits — Claude applies changes without pausing
Docs
- Edits individual sentences or headings while preserving surrounding formatting
- For larger rewrites: proposes suggestion cards that highlight passages you apply or dismiss
- Converts content into tables
Sheets
- Writes formulas, builds pivot tables and native charts
- Adds tabs
- Sends a range to Python for joins or data cleaning, then writes results back
- Can build a report from an empty sheet using attached source files
- Flags items over budget
Slides
- Creates slides using the deck’s existing layouts and themes
- Checks its own work post-edit
- Flags overlapping or off-slide elements and hard-to-read text
Shared Claude setup
When signed in, the sidebar offers the same models, connectors, and skills as the main Claude app — the workspace add-on is not a stripped-down version. Practical examples:
- Pull Salesforce account history through a connector while editing a document
- Use a saved skill to standardize deck formats across a team
Connectors (beta)
A separate Connectors feature lets you work from the Claude chat interface toward Google files. Paste a file link or request a new doc, sheet, or deck; on supported setups, the file opens in a side pane beside the chat. Best for new files or work spanning several files. Claude’s access matches your existing Google sharing permissions.
To enable: turn on the Google connectors. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner or primary owner must enable them first.
Enterprise controls
On Enterprise plans, the add-on inherits:
- Compliance API — same as the rest of the Claude platform
- CMEK — customer-managed encryption keys
- OpenTelemetry audit export — for compliance logging
Installation
- Install from the Google Workspace Marketplace
- Open a file → Extensions > Claude > Open Claude
- Admins can deploy to a domain or selected groups via the Google Admin console (no per-user install required at scale)
Requirement: A paid Claude plan. Sign in with your Claude account for full model, connector, and skills access.
